I wanted to do it myself but the weather around here isn't letting up and the wheel is wobbling pretty bad. There's ice all over my driveway and I don't have a garage to work in. I tried to take it into a mechanic for an estimate and he start listing a bunch of problem that doesn't even exist and then qouted me "300" bucks. I don't think that it should cost anywhere near there right? It's a 20 dollar tierod that suppose to take 10 minutes to replace right? TIA

Oh sorry:
It's a 99 Contour Ls 4 cyc.

You are looking at around $220-$250 to get it done in a shop.

Yeah, I think you are better off finding a friend whom is willing to provide a garage and a 2nd set of hands. Its going to take a while too do, especially because of underbody rust. Unless you soak it in PB blaster every day for at least a week in advance.

Remember alignment is included in that cost, that could be up to $80 of it. I'm not sure how much the labor is on tie rods. But are you getting inner and outer done? You'd probably be able to find a shop that could do outer for cheaper then find an alignment shop that will align it for $50 or maybe less if just front end.
It's really not hard to do yourself, just need some muscle. I did it at night in the rain.

There's a pretty good place around my house that cost only 29 bucks for aligning the front wheels. I don't know if I can do it because the front wheels are pretty bald though. I'll go to AutoZone tommorrow and ask for the price of the tie rods and just hope for warmer weather. If that doesn't happen then I'll just have to shell out 250 I guess. Thanks

The outer tie-rods should be under $20 a piece for Moog parts.

Definately do it yourself. My first one, I paid about $60 to have done, plus alignment. When the other went, it was $18.50 from SPMotorsports, and took about 20 minutes to do, including jacking up the car and removing wheels. Just search for a how to and you should be set, assuming the weather gets warmer. It does suck working in the cold, but not $200+ worth, IMO.
