Your engine runs like my sister's Mystique when a plug had a carbon track on the insulator, under the boot. See if you get the same misfire cylinder 3 with the different (hopefully right type) plugs. It could be a clogged injector, too lean on that cylinder, or the coil pack.

I found this topic under Duratec maintenance Spark carbon tracking That is what my plugs did, take a look at yours that you took out, and try silicone greasing the rubber boots, after cleaning out any dirt in them. Interesting, the above topic is cylinder 3..

Cool, thanks man, I'm going to check my plug wires tomorrow. Now the plug I took out doesnt have any of whats in the pictures but who knows, maybe the wire is still bad. I'm not ruling out the chance that it might be injectors either

If the engine "leans out" from lack of fuel it will knock; even at low RPMs or idle.

swapped plugs and wires and all is good. Was probably a bad wire... but can a bad wire cause a plug to melt like that? Also I think I have a bit less torque down low (<2500RPM) but top end feels fine. I gapped my plugs at 0.050 and my old ones were 0.052. That wouldnt cause torque loss would it? Should the computer be reset after plug/wire change? Sorry for all the questions

Glad it's runnning well now. I was impressed by the bad plug picture. I don't think torque would drop, it might rise. It might have been running rich or something. Hope it stays running well, for a good while. The main reason to reset the computer is to clear the codes out.

It sounds like you fixed the issue but regapping a used plug is not going to work. If a plug is pulled from a Duratec it has to be put back in the same exact cylinder or you'll have issues. The Duratec has an unusual ignition system. I'll save the trouble of explaining. The solution to your issue is new double plats and wires.

Ya the bad plug picture came out pretty clear. Showed me things on the plug I would not normally see
