I put this in my wife's car about a year ago and at first I was very impressed with all of the features (similar to my oldschool pioner premier DEH-900R), but one feature that is missing from the new head unit is the sound mode for "club, jazz, studio, ect..) However the newer unit has the ability to self optimize with an external microphone that you can attach to the drivers headrest(I've yet to use this option, but its cool).
One major gripe I have with this product is that the faceplate often loses connection with the backplate, so the volume knob doesn't work, or none of the buttons work, or sometimes on startup, the front display doesn't light up and none of the buttons work (you can either live with no radio or restart the car). Sometimes if the unit has stopped working after startup you can jiggle or press the faceplate and it will start working again.
Other than that it has been pretty trouble free, and gives excellent sound quality and adjustability.

ok yeah i was having the same problem with my 4600mp i think thats the moddle number
what causing it to do it is curosion
excuse the spelling
but its an easy fix i fixed mine 2 weeks ago
find a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and basicly rub the contacts till it gets shinny be careful not to get the cotton fuzz stick on the contacts
theres nothing wrong with pioneer its just simple maintinance

All the preset EQ settings are fully adjustable I think you get 16 bands, but I haven't gone out to check.

Yeah I figured it was something like that, and hawaiian air is notorious for year round corrosion. It's my wife's car so she can clean it.

That sounds like an oxymoron to me.

It gives you a basis... you get an idea of the style you want from the preset, then tune it to your liking.

yes, you get a preset EQ for say "powerful" like rock, metal, ect...Then you can fine tune the 13 band EQ settings to get it just right. You can sart from a flat setting that gives you no real reference points if you just like to experiment, or know exactly how you like you EQ settings.
