I finally got the chance to install my FORD BLUE powder coated engine parts (cam covers, upper intake) the other day. Been meaning to do it for awhile now, the parts have been sitting in storage for like 5 weeks so I figured it was now or never. I think it looks great compared to the factory black, yeah I'm old school (FORD hasn't put out a blue motor in how long?) but I like blue and plus it's also a FORD! Did everything myself including the powder coat which didn't cost me a single dime (thanks Metro State College Denver!) it was all free. Granted I paid a $40 "lab" fee. We've got a sand blaster, powder coat gun ("ford" blue powder), and an oven at college for student use. Yeah, I now it doesn't make it go faster, it does however look better than stock. I think I'll do the set I took off in powder coat (red, blue, silver, black, or?) , any takers (non-svt uim). Now, I'm thinking of fabbing up a carbon fiber engine cover (if someone hasn't already?). The plastic pos looks out of place now. Awesome job. Looks like it came out nice, but sorry, I don't like the color at all.
A CF IMRC cover has already been made. I actually have one myself.

Yeah, it ain't a baby blue like it looks. The picture was taken on an overcast day. It's a true FORD blue. I'm sure alot of people won't like it but, I'm not about cookie cutter b.s. that's already been done (not to say I'm the first to do one in ford blue). Thats why I didn't do a more common black, red or silver. Like I've seen on others. I like the blue, and again it's a FORD.

Did you have to buff down the intake? Very shiny!

Nah, you can't really buff powdercoat (really tough $hit!). And I didn't grind the castings on the parts. It kinda happened by mistake, I screwed up the first couple trys on the cam covers. Those bosses for the coil pack and etc caused a "faraday effect" which didn't allow the powder to evenly coat around them (dry spots) , so I had to recoat several times! All in all you're looking at about three coats of blue with one coat of clear. With all those coats I'm sure the original castings where filled in a bit, lol!!! The clear did help alot with the overall shine, much like a base/clear paint job only in powder coat!

It's not my choice for color, but it looks really good. Too bad you can't powder coat the engine cover.

Right now, that might look a bit loud and out of place, but I think with some same colored wires and whatnot in there, it'll start to look really good.

Too many digital cameras bleed the blue spectrum into the green, and that's why your pic makes it look sky/cyan. Take some pics in the sunlight with shadows and they will turn out much better Looks cool btw
