it seems there are a ton of 2002 x-types just off lease in my neck of the woods. very reasonably priced, too.

i'm fairly familiar with the basic car (owned a counter seV6 and currently own a mystique as a daily driver) but i am concerned with the all wheel drive longevity.

any experience, word of mouth, etc., that anyone would like to share? i'm looking at a manual trans 2.5 with 21,000 miles on it. thanks!

tim

I would have thought the same thing but you want to stay away from the 2002s I believe. I seem to recall they tended to have alot of problems and since it was the first year of the car

otherwise I think it is a good choice

well, i'm sort of stuck with the 2002 because there are NO manuals to be found in the other years...plus, i can get the 2002 2.5 5-speed for about 16k.

i couldn't believe how solid the car felt. it really did feel like it was better built than my v6 contour, and certainly more solid than my current mystique. it was hard to tell they were of the same family when i was behind the wheel!

i really, really want a 3.0 manual, but that's just not gonna happen. can't find one in any searches within 100 miles from home.

They are the next generation Mondeo platfrom, not the CDW27.

I wouldn't get one out of loyalty to the Contour/Myst, though. Jag is dropping these cars, sound familiar? Resale will be same as CDW cars.

In 2009, that's a long run. Low resales are good for buying at least

i test drove a 3.0 manual. as far as the butt dyno could tell, didnt feel as quick off the line or as sporty as my csvt. the prices for used ones are very attractive but there are also some decent deals on 325s and A4s out there. the only thing it really has on the csvt is the awd and the fact that its a jag.

i agree, the added weight doesn't allow for the xtype to be any faster. but remember...the newest SVT is a 2000. there are hardly any in the US that aren't high milage or heavily modded. conversly, there are tons of xtypes with low milage...hell, there are NEW xtypes!

i want to buy a ford...i've owned 10 in the past 20 years, and i like them. the mondeo/contour/mystique is the perfect size, and the jag is the "nicest", if not fastest.
