Nothing in search. Has anyone discussed running a water injector on a normally aspirated engine. Would there be any gains from cooling the engine a bit through this technique. There was a thread on spraying water into the plenum to clean the carbon and another thread on water injection on turbo car. Could you run a water injector tuned down and see any gains. Just curious.

My question would be why?
On a turbocharged engine the water cools the intake charge, and a cooler charge means denser air, hence more gas can be used, thus more power. It also keeps the combustion temps down. Many other reasons also.. On a S/C engine, you can inject water before the Super charger (if its a roots/whipple style) to increase sealing between rotors and thus give more boost, and also cool the charge. On a centifugal Chrager, you cna inject afterwards to cool the charge, thus eliminating the need for an aftercooler. Ummmm but on an NA, you really wouldnt get the effects of steam cleaning the intake tract, its not hot enough, even on a TC'ed engineyou only get steam cleaning effects in the chamber and the exhaust port... you might just be better off taking the intake manifold off and cleaning it. And then just use a good quality ram air to help out with the temps...

Well, GoodwinToo pretty much summed it up. I am using water injection with my SC, and I have even tried it without the SC (since my SC killed itself a couple months ago) and all it did without the SC was cause spark blowout and a lot of steam out of the exhaust.

Below are some pics of my engine bay & W/I setup:

I know why...

It would keep your intakes clean.

Help rid the gunk buildup...

Okay, so I'm just trying to help... laugh

This stuff got a lot of attention in the
70s on big, gas guzzling V8 cars
when the " gas shortage" pushed prices from
.30s/.40s per gallon to over WELL over 1.00
per.

To compensate for running high cr. engines on high test, many people played around with water, water/alcohol mixes with cheaper low octane gas.

Eventually others started to try it with premium fuels again with higher than "normal"
cr's, and steeper, and further advanced ignition timing curves, etc..

I think the biggest thing that turned people away from it was the advent of electronic engine management.

By itself, power gains are nil as I recall. In some cases it may let you tune for more power on a n/a engine by increasing some thing else [cr, ignition timing etc.] that you otherwise couldn't without detonation rearing it's ugly head.

Mark, what did you finally end up with for a pump/pumps?

Two TRICO superpumps controlled by a Labtronics Water Injection computer.

The only dyno run i have with the pumps on is when the SC died. Vibrations after 4 grand killed any hope of making power (with or without the w/i) and below 4 grand i was putting down 20fwhp more then without running the w/i.

Any of you interest in running water injection in your NA SVT, I can show you how. Total cost would be about $10. It is safe and can be install in .5 hour. Best power increase that you will see (until your engine is cleaned of carbon build up).
