I'm thinking of buying a 95 SE 2.5 mtx, leather interior, svt rims, car is in good condition. Only issue is that the original engine has been replaced with a 98-99 V-6 and I'm just wondering what sort of problems I may run into because of the change in ecm and such. My mechanic friend is the one selling it and he did the swap and all himself. He's a very trustworthy guy and says that the swap went smooth except that the cruise control no longer works. The engine has ~60000 miles on it and he's asking what he has invested in the car: $2000 Any help is much appreciated

Was the ECM really changed to match the engine? That might explain why the cruise doesn't work. His price may be a little bit high, how many miles on the whole car? The 1996 and newer had OBD2 system, 1995 had OBD1 system.

i highly doubt he changed the pcm to a 98...that would require all the harness' in the car to be changed..not to mention the whole PATS issue,...that would require pulling the complet dash out the carpet and istalling all the interior harness' and antennas for the PATS system....

OK, he didn't say that he replaced the ecm and harnesses so I doubt that he did. I don't want a patched car so don't think I'm going to go for it. I'd rather have obdII for tuning purposes anyway. Thanks for your help

Update: friend says that everything from the "new" engine harness plugged right up to the car's ecm and that the engine started first time with no problems...are the ecm input plugs the same on these different years? Just wondering if something funny is going on with the harnesses. I don't know how he got the secondaries to operate seeing as how the '95 secondaries worked from vacuum.????

... are you sure its a 95?...all the harness' are different from 95, the 96-00 are the same....i dont see him buying a "new" harness...do some searching and find the cost on one of those things ....no the ecm harness isnt the same

See if there is an OBD port plug under the dash, above the kickpanel driver side. About 2 inches by 3/4 inches, many pins..That would tell you if the wiring matches a 1996 or newer.

Yeah, I'm in school now and 3 hours from the car. Otherwise I would already know what was up. He pulled the harness along with the engine from a wrecked car. He KNOWS that the receiver car is a 95 and says that the donar car was at least a '96+. I'm thinking that the donar car must have been a '95. Anyone know exactly where the vacuum tube for the secondaries plugs up so I can look for it? When I get home next week, I'll go over and look at it, maybe plug my scanner up to it and look at all the sensors, see what's going on.
