Hubby's buddy told him to disconnect the battery so the computer will set itself. Right now the car won't start at all so I can't get it down to Auto Zone to get the codes read but I am slowing working on it. Have to have it running by the 13th because my son has a CT scan that day. Wondering if I can get hubby to hurry his butt up!

If you disconnect the battery, all the codes will be erased. Don't bother going to Autozone or Advance then as it will show no codes or a code for PCM not ready.

So what is better then? Going first and getting the codes read and posting them or just trying to disconnect the battery?

"Going first and getting the codes read and posting them" is better. After that, you can disconnect the battery or pull Fuses 6 and 11 for the 2000 Contour (for a minute or so) in the Power Distribution Box next to the battery to relearn the PCM.

You are sure one patient wife. My wife would have trown my butt out the door by now. If her Lexus wasn't running right for a day or two, she'd go over to the Lexus dealer and buy a new one, tell me that I could come back home once I had the old one fixed, sold, and money in hand...

If you can get your Contour running, and are lucky enough to get the check engine light to come on, immediately get those codes read at the local AutoZone. Better yet, get a cheap code reader from Wal-Mart, use it until your vehicle is fixed (has a button to reset the codes once you have fixed the problem), then return it. Better yet - get your husband down to Wal-Mart to pick up the code reader as his "holiday gift" until the vehicle is fixed. Your husband is lucky that you are so patient... where did I go wrong?

Have you put a can of good quality dry gas in the tank yet.

A little water could cause some of what you've described, in your previous post. A bad fuel filter could also it.

But you haven't mentioned changing it.
