I just got done putting a co-worker's 1995 Contour with the 2.5L back together after replacing the alternator, valve cover gaskets, and upper intake gaskets. In the process of putting the upper intake on, I came across a vacuum hose that has melted and I cannot determine where the other end should go. The origination end and the melted end are circled in the picture at http://www.members.aol.com/Rod24147..._Stuff/hose.jpgShe's recently moved here to Iowa from Texas and has mentioned that the car doesn't like to run when it's cold. While I had the upper intake off, I cleaned the carbon sludge from the intake as well as the throttle plate and IAC. I also checked all 6 plugs and wires. It appears they haven't been on the car for a horribly long time and I didn't see a reason to change them. She is right though, the car doesn't like to run when it's cold, and I'm suspecting this melted vacuum line could be the culprit. This week she'll be bringing the car back by to check for any DTC's and to check the EGR valve and passages. I suspect the pictured vacuum hose goes to the EVAP system, but I'm not sure. I had never worked on a Duratec before, but have spent many hours under the hoods of my '93 and '98 Taurus SHO's. -Rod

Secondary vacuum control. You are likely experiencing a CEL right now for this, or will shortly.
Default (no vacuum) is opened... so the car will act like a dog below 3200(WOT) or 3800 normally, then act normal after that range.

It's one of your pcv valve hoses, [image] [/image] There is probably another piece behind the engine maybe you could use a normal rubber hose to connect. Check/replace pcv valve too. Nothing simple on this car! The SHO seems simpler (I have a 1991 SHO Electric Red as well as 1998 Mystique LS)
Update-I took a look outside (brrr), the small hose off the top of the PCV goes to a plastic line that goes behind the engine IAC control, and a larger hose on pcv goes to a metal tube under the throttle body area near PCV. I can't take a picture w/o dismantling the air intake!

Looks like the Hose from the PCV to Evap Emission Valve. It should be connected to a corrigated plastic hose that runs from the PCV to the Evap valve. Mine was replaced with rubber fuel hose. Getting to the Evap valve is a PITA, it's behind the coil on the firewall.

Great, thank you all very much! From some of the other searching I did on the forum in search of information, it sounds like I had better pull the lower intake manifold anyway and replace those gaskets. At the time I was only attempting to fix leaky valve cover gaskets and didn't have the tool to release the fuel rail couplings, so I only did the upper intake gasket.
Pulling the upper intake to get the coil off isn't too bad, so I'll see if she can do without her car for another day Saturday.
This forum is very helpful! I had the original message on AutomotiveForums.com (which is very helpful with the SHO) for over a week and no one responded, until a couple days ago when someone pointed me to this forum. Less than two days and I have my answer!
