I am trying to remove and clean my MAF sensor from my 98 CSVT. I read the how-to but i am still unclear as to where exactly the MAF is located? Is the MAF the little black sensor on top of the metal intake duct right after the air filter? there are two bolts, one is a star head bolt, and the other is more like a rivet. I cannot remove the other bolt. My question is, do i remove the metal duct the sensor sits on (attached by 4 bolts)? If anyone knows, i would appriciate it.

The MAF sensor is between the filter housing and the throttle body.
Hard way but you can clean it better: use vise grips to remove the screws then you can clean it with direct spray. Just be very careful when removing, working with, and replacing, because the wires are delicate. Easy way: remove the air filter and shoot the cleaner through the screen into the little pitot tube where the wires reside.
The screws that hold the MAF sensor in the intake are security torx and they put some sealer into one of the screws to make it harder to get off. I have the tool (you can get it from an electrical supply house) and some extra screws so when I got it out I replaced the one with sealer in it with a normal one.

I paid $150 for a re-conditioned one from Ford three years ago. Apparently they don't defect very often? Try the spray first but it did nothing for me.

Don't bother with removing the security torx screws. Unhook the air filter upper housing, unsrew the worm clamp at the accordian tube (air intake duct) side, and spray the MAF sensor that way.

If all else fails...take a big 3lb hammer and chisel the heads off the screws... ...then go bye a new one...hehehe.

Just take out the aluminum housing and spray it that way. They are very sensitive and usually need to be replaced when they are not working right.

I have been advised in other post to clean MAF.

found your post, and going through your "easy way", and the MAF hole is in sight, but ... what cleaner shall I use? was not clear from any posting i found.

can I spray with compressed air can?, or what chemical?

if there are options please list a few in case I have that.

thanks,

Stefano
