I'm kinda geeked. My mom asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I happened to be looking at an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12" on e-bay for $87 shipped. I know it's not the best sub out there, but it's a damn sight better than the 12" Rockford Punch I'm runnin now. My ??? is it calls for a 1.0 ft^3 box, and mine is 1.25. How much will this matter? I can always put in a piece of 2x4 to reduce the interior volume of my current box, but would it be worth it? Anyway, just had to share, my wife is already tired of hearing about my car, Lol.

If thats your method, do it! Subs always sound best in a box built to spec. I have mine built within about 1.0 cubic cm

be careful if the sub is not brand new, the membrane of the perfect is really sensible to scratch.

Wouldn't using additional wood inside be the same as making a new, smaller box. I would rather not get a new box if this will work, but if it isn't a good idea, I'll just get a new box. THanks,
Scott

I don't see any reason why putting a 2X4 in the box would hurt anything, and would make the volume smaller. One thing is just make sure that it is attached nicely to the box, don't want that superglue and tape to break loose

Couldn't he just use the existing box, cut it down so that it's the right size, then put it back together? I don't see the need in starting from scratch.

My sub box is built in with my amp rack. Didn't want to redo the whole box as it is only 2 months old, wife wouldn't go for buying a new box already. I think I got the solution I needed, anyway. Thanks guys.

Yea, just mount a 2x4 piece or whatever else o the inside to take up that space you dont need. Thats all you need to do. No new box and added expenses.

only one worry: the acoustics will be a bit different with a board in there like that. I suggest a box rebuild

but thats just me and im crazy, so it sounds like the board thing should work fine

Perhaps you may allready know this but just to add my 2 cents. A larger box will make a sub sound better. Not louder mind you, but the sub will play deeper and sound smoother. Also if you don't have batting (poly stuffing in sheets stapled to the inside walls of the enclosure) I would suggest adding some thus slightly lowering the cu. ft. of the enclosure. However if you are looking for SPL only (loudness) then the smaller the box the better. I would personally go for the larger enclosure due to the higher "Q" but that brings up a whole nother topic i will not get into. The enclosure size reccomended by the mfg (infinity in this case) is to give you a min size requirement. As a side note if you do happen to buy another box I would stay away from ported enclosures due to the potential of unloading your subs and smelling that familiar smell of burned voice coil. Hopefully this will help you.
