When I back my car up into the drive, which has an incline, or when I take off from a stop that is on an incline, my car almost jidders, or shakes. I don't want to rev it up to high b/c I don't want to burn out my clutch. Why does it shake like that? I am conscious about not giving it too much gas when starting off.

Need to step on the gas pedal a little more and release the clutch pedal a little slower.

Or maybe give it more gas as the clutch is being released. I know if I don't give it enough gas, the rpm's drop to like 500 and then it'll shake once things grab. That's about the point where I stop fiddling with the stereo and pay attention to what I'm doing.

Yep. Had the same problem when I was 16, driving around in my little 5-speed '93 Ranger. Give it a bit more gas.

First of all my car is bone stock. It's not that I am not a good driver and I can't take off correctly, its only on steep hills. I know what some of you are getting at. Its not like when you take off from first, shift into second and after you are already in second, give it gas in it shakes when the RPM's are too low. I am also not talking about when taking off from first and I let out the clutch too quickly. It is only simply on hills.

Hey I'm in SE MI too. Never have seen you are around. Are there any Contour or SVT shows around?

Same thing. The only way to prevent this "almost stalling problem" if you are having problems is to use the handbrake and not release it until you hear the engine sound change. That was what I was taught and still do when I am on a steep incline with a manual transmission (on 1st or Reverse gear).
