Ive got this code on a couple occasions a few monthes apart. 98 svt. I simply went to AutoZone, cleared the codes and no cel for 4 months now. Last time I cleared it I had the car emmisions tested the next day with no problem (in GA). My question is: Does this code have any significance as far as a potential future problem?

Pre-cats are gone. If the codes show up, car goes into the limp mode, i.e., lower gas mileage, lower performance. If your SVT still passes the smog emissions (and is out of the emissions warranty), then just install mileliminators to fool the PCM into thinking the pre-cats are working fine. If you are within the 8 year/80k mile federal emissions warranty period, send it to Ford to get it fixed.

Contours/Mystiques can pass emissions tests with only the main cat. Ask the guys who have gutted pre cats.

If the code keeps showing up then the precats are probably toast. Which like mentioned above will hurt performance and gas mileage.

Having bad precats shouldn't hurt performance or mileage unless they are restricting flow. At least not any more than they already restrict the flow...
