So I'm getting ready to install my freshly powdercoated camcovers and upperintake (FORD BLUE!). In the process I'm cleaning out a spare LIM off another SVT motor to put on mine to save some time (man do those things coke up with carbon! damned pcv!). Anyway while I'm cleaning this thing out (bored) I start thinking about easy ways to improve it. Ideas like porting, polishing, larger butterflies, kinsler/hilborn style injector stacks (lol), etc come to mind. Then I see that the screws that fasten the butterflies on the throttle shaft are domed. Definitely NOT good for airflow. Then I remember a thread awhile back about someone that countersunk the screws in the throttle body, with some benefits. Why not do the same with the lim throttle butterflies? Granted the mod itself probably isn't worthy of tearing the top of you motor apart to do. In my case I'm doing it anyway to install the new powdercoated parts. So far I've gotten all the screws out, believe me it's not easy as they are tiny and all of them are blue loctited in place! Took a screw down to the local hardware store and found a perfect match, only countersunk. I plan to machine the butterflies, install the new screws w/loctite and see what if any benefits there are. Like a said I was bored. Take a look at the pics quite a difference. Though the pic is BEFORE I actually countersunk the butterfly! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c229/mormononamission/butterfly.jpg

pic not found.... It might have a small effect, its much like the optimized TB. If Your tour has no turbo it probably won't even be noticable. BUT Since you're alreayd there, I'd say go for it. I would If I had my LIM pulled apart and I knew I could get the screws to do it, it would be done.

I'll try and get some pics up later on. They came out pretty good. I put a clear coat on them which made them looks almost like a base clear auto type finish gloss. Yeah, I went old school with the ford blue. Representin, lol! It's funny those cam covers are painted/powder coated on both sides. I almost thought they were plastic until I rubbed some of the finish off of them. And I'll do the loctite for sure!

Trust me...those little screws aren't screwing you out of any airflow...at least not measureable. Just leave them alone unless you already have the stuff. Yeah, at least use the loctite.

Peak airflow difference. Negligable.
Airflow quality. Descernable.
No lame rods & plates altogether. Unbeatable.
