Last night around 1:45 am, I got pulled over by a cop who said he clocked me going 52 in a 35 mph zone. I was taking my girlfriend home from my apartment, which is typically about a 35 minute drive. Most of the road has a 45 mph speed limit, except for one small section containing two schools which is 35 mph normally and 25 mph during school hours. People travel 55-60 on this road all the time, and I'm sure the only reason I got caught this time is because it was so late and I was the only person on the road. The football game traffic had already cleared up an hour or so earlier, and in fact that's why I was waiting until late to leave my place. Fortunately, the policeman was very nice and let me off with a warning! I'm sure that had I been going 55, which would have been reckless driving (20 over) it would have turned out differently. This is only the 2nd time I've ever been pulled over, and luckily I have yet to get a ticket.

What is this "warning" you speak of? In my town, you go more than three mph over and you are garanteed a ticket.

I drive in Florida. About 99.8% of drivers in Florida are reckless, simply because they can't drive for beans.

I was doing 35 in a 25 zone. That's what the PBSO deputy said. I was looking around for the insurance card of the van I was driving, and I couldn't find it. The officer got fed up, and had to respond to a call (I overheard from his radio) nearby.

He was about to ticket me too. I lucked out that time.

Then, an FHP dude was tailgating me as I was doing 65 in a 55 zone. I switched lanes, and the dude just flew by!

For the most part, drivers in Florida (excluding those in the group, I assume) are reckless.

Is my car for sale? PM me if you're in South FL.

I'll agree w/ that! It's especially bad here on the beach with all the old people. I am a STRONG supporter of the notion that after a certain age you should prove your ability to still be able to drive normally and lawfully.

Now tomorrow I get to drive back up to Gainesville to finish out the semester, and the drivers suck there too -- but it's a different kind of suckiness... the reckless college student kind.

I just did an interview with a cop, and he told me usually if someone is really nice, they will let them go. Gotta love nice cops. I've been pulled over twice, once for a 60 in a 45 and once for 35 in a 15, and both times I only got a warning.

I knew a guy who had gotten 50+ by the time he was in his early 20s and had to fight to not have his license revoked.

IIRC, 58 the last time I talked to him, but that was probably 4-5 years ago. He drove a company van doing work around town and speeded around everywhere, apparently. And I didn't believe it either, until I talked to his wife and she verified it.
