Well, my front right speaker just died...So I went down to the local ABC Warehouse, I was then swamped by sales people, but anyway the speakers all sound the same. What do I look for? What really defines the best speaker....not like I can throw a few on the dino a see wich one kicks more ass......And what happened to the "prepared for the road ahead" slogan....after 10 years the speakers hit the dirt?

I went to best buy and listened to all the 5x7/6x8's that they had and wasn't impressed by many of them. IMO the best sounding ones they had were the Alpines, both the type-r components and the type-s coaxials sounded better than the other stuff they had. They had Kenwood, Kicker, Pioneer and some no-name brand...
I had Kenwood's in my front doors for a while and wasn't impressed with them.

Wait until some of the true audiophiles get on here, they'll give you both the technical reasons and the audible ways to determine the "best" speaker.
HIGH end brands like MB Quartz, Blaupunkt, etc sound awesome. (Personally, i have Blaupunkt 6x9 4-ways with crossovers in each door., though I'd dump those for some MB's!
Dnewma04 is into audio alot, as well as a few others.. they will help you define the terms to look for as soon as they see this post.

What is your price range and are you basically looking for stock replacements powered by the factory CD player? Give us some parameters and I'm sure we can make some suggestions for you...

Ive ran Alpine Type R's, and they don't sound any better then type S if they are running off of Head Unit power...so buy a pair of type s 6.5's... Buy last years new if you can and they will be a bundle cheaper and still sound great..

Not too many technical specs are in play here. This guy sounds like he wants to keep it simple. We could throw all kinds of technical terms and measurements at him but why confuse him.
Bottom line is your going to be super happy with just about anything over the stock speakers your replacing. You said you couldn't hear a difference between the speakers at ABC warehouse because they pretty much are all the same. But if your stock Ford paper POS speaker was on display, it would be a night/day difference. You could probably hear a difference between the standard replacement 5x7" and the component speakers, but I dont know if you want to jump into that boat.
The one spec that will apply to you is sensitivity. You'll see numbers like 86db up to just above 90db. Which basicly boils down to how much sound you get with a given amount of power. The higher # the better if your powering the speaker with low wattage like you are with you stock amplifier. Just look for a replacement speaker with a low RMS wattage and you will be happy. UNLESS you are planning on upgrading your headunit/system later on. then its a completely different story.

Eww...
I had 4 of those crap piles in my svt when I purchased it. With the stock head unit and factory amp they were so bad I couldn't stand it. I switched out the speakers the first day I had it to MB Quarts and Infinities and it sounded much better. When I later amped the doors, it sounded much, much, much better still (I also changed to an aftermarket headunit at that time as well).
