I have 3 PCs running WINXP. Recently, all three of them will ask for a username's password when none has been assigned. The only way to logon is to shutdown and restart. Then I can click on the username with no password and logon successfully. I have other usernames that do have passwords and when entering them, I get the same result..."Did you forget your password?". Nope, I haven't forgotten it and even have reminders in case I do. I've never seen this problem before and can't find any info regarding it on the internet. As you can imagine, this is quite annoying and irratating. Please advise.

try hitting ctrl-alt-del twice and then logging on as 'administrator'

You can change (or remove) passwords from accounts there.

I love stores that don't have administrator passwords =)

Does anyone else have the problem of when sign on to XP it says "Your password will expire in 14 days. Would you like to change it now"? It ends up going all the way down to 1 and then it reassigns a password.

re:14 days

You need to change your policy to not require password updating... or set it to 99 days, or the like.

I was hoping to find the root of the problem. This is something that I've never experienced before on any of WINXP computers. No settings have been changed and software added. The Ctrl-Alt-Del reads like a way to get around it but not a way to fix the problem.

Did a fresh install of WINXP and still have the same problem. I'm being led to believe this to be a Microsoft induced problem either from an SP2 or Security update. Does anyone have any clues as to how to solve this?

Click Start and Run
Type "Control Userpasswords2" and press enter.
Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
Click Apply and Ok.
