well I paid the extra $100 core charge to keep my old engine and I planned on letting him put the SVT topend on the couger 2.5l but should I make him put the pistons in too? thats gonna require alot more work, or maybe see if he'll fab up some custom headers instead, will he still have to pull the engine back out?

Why would you do that? The block and internals are the exact same, the real differences are the cylinder heads, intake, larger TB,exhaust manifolds & the quasi dual exhaust. It's all basic bolt on stuff that gives you the extra 30hp. Just get all the required SVT parts you need, and you're back to SVT spec, the only difference is that you won't have the original block that came in your car,and nobody would be able to tell otherwise.

I dunno...just from what everybody has told me,the blocks and internals are the same. Anyways,if I'm wrong I'm wrong, but if I was in your shoes I'd just source the parts I need and not need to worry about pulling the motor again.
I don't care,I don't like Duratecs anyways. PITA engines to work on. That's why I'm building my Zetec instead.

The pistons are slightly different. The compression ratio change isn't much. On the 98 and early 99 it goes from 9.8:1 to 10.0:1. On the late 99 and 00 it's more, from 9.8:1 to 10.25:1. The rise was to help compensate for the slightly smaller bore on the later engines.
Under the circumstances of getting a low mile replacement engine for such an exceptional price, I would be inclined to suggest that you swap the SVT pieces from the old engine over and call it close enough. You will end up with most of the horsepower that you had before but have a fresh engine. If you hold out for an SVT engine, you may end up with an engine in much poorer condition.

Way too much work to swap all the internal SVT stuff into the regular 2.5. Much easier to just swap a correct motor in. I would be irrate if I had that happen. I'd everything necessary to get it corrected.

Go back and tell him to put the right engine in.
That's just what I was about to say. Who drives out of the shop after getting major work on the car without at least looking under the hood?

Yes. And just out of curiosity, I'd like to see pics. I'm not doubting you, but I think that would make a neat OWNED pic.
