Hi,
I'm new here and just got myself a used 99' Contour. When I got it the radio didn't work so I bought a new one. I bought a harness and wired everything except for a couple of wires, two orange and one blue, and stuck everything back in. Well, it still didn't work. I check the fuse underneath the dash and it looked fine. I also checked the fuse in the stereo and that looked fine also. I got fustrated and took everything apart to look at the connection and everything looked right, I didn't check it with the multimeter because I didn't know how to thought. So what do you guys think is the problem? I don't know much about cars and stereo installation other then just taken and replacing them. I think the yellow one was to the battery bacause it was labeled on my new HU. Please help, I've been driving around for two weeks without any music and it's driving me nuts.

Oh, and I searched and don't think that I have a premium stereo, just the normal one. The whole problem I think was that it had no power going to it. When I plugged the original HU back in and turned on the lights, I can see the clock, but then I thought it was just another light from underneath illuminating the HU.

TIA!!

you should really check with the multimeter to see if you have power or not first, check your fuse again (not just the radio one) and not just under the dash but under the hood too.

I've checked all of the fuses and they all tested fine. I'm about to go out and buy a multimeter and check if there's power going to the HD. If there isn't any power, where should I check next? Thanks

BTW: I've searched thru almost all of the post in this forum and saw most of it was because of the fuse or the grounding. Where can I find this ground wire? It could be what the problem was right? I didn't see one when I was putting in the new HU. Thanks.

Welcome.

Download (free) an owner's manual. It has locations of fuses, etc. www.fleet.ford.com

I went out and got a cheap multimeter today and concluded that there was power to the HU. I also bought a one of those books you reconmmended and found out that if someone remove the original HU without disconnecting the battery it would reset the computer and I would need to input a "code" to get it working again. I got a friend over that works on Mustangs and he said that it sounded right because we can see the OEM HU clock when we turn on the lights. But how can this be happening since I am installing a new HU? I searched the glove compartment and didn't see a "code" slip anywhere. I did manage to find a booklet for a CV radio in there though, I guess that was what was in the car before they sold it to me. I guess I hit a wall with this code thing. So probaly my question is where can I get this code, and if I have to bring it back to the dealership to get the code, do I need to put the OEM HU back in to inpujt the code.

And thanks for the Welcome!

I may be tagging in on this thread a little late, but have you checked your ignition wire? (switched 12v source) Sounds like it may be hooked up incorrectly. what radio did you get? factory or aftermarket? brand/model etc??
