Well, the great FPR experiment did not go well. I know some have been asking about it, so here are the results.

First off, the stupid thing is too tall to fit under the upper intake manifold. This may be able to be fixed with a little machining and a smaller adjustment screw. I might also need to change the spring inside which could prove to be difficult to get right.

The vacuum port is on the inside (towards injectors), so I'm not sure if the vacuum line will reach. I got it on there, but it comes off a vacuum line that is attached to the dual lines going to the plastic thingamajig next to the IAC on the upper. Also, the 1/8" NPT port that I was planning on using for a fuel pressure gauge faces the injectors, too. I can probably fix these by drilling new holes to mount the top piece in a new orientation.

The base is just tall enough to interfere with the rod connecting the IMRC butterflies. It might work with a little bending, but if left as is the secondaries remain slightly cracked. The Kirban unit I have seen would probably not have this problem, but it looks to suffer the same height problems.

The bateries in the digital cam were dead, so I'll be getting pics to post tomorrow. To make matters worse, I dropped one of the FPR screws when removing. I heard it hit something in the engine bay, but it never fell to the ground. Now I have to run around to hardware stores looking for the right screw to replace it with tomorrow. (Anyone know what size that screw is???)

I've seen a Kirban on eBay and it isn't getting any attention from bidders, so I am going to hang on to this part and see if I can get it to work.

Is that unit capable of being remote mounted? I was not able to make it to the mod fest b/c I opted for the SHO/SVT get together. Was fun. I would like to see that sometime if possible.
Do you have another bolt that is the same? There is a great little hardware store down by me. I went there for metric bolts to install my Accel coil on my last car. They had all sorts of stuff. Let me know if I can help!

Turns out that the stock FPR is about as tall as one can go, so I doubt there is any way to modify the Mallory to fit. I guess I'll throw it on eBay, unless somebody here wants to take it off my hands. It will fit in the mounting location on the fuel rail for any 2 bolt Ford FPR, assuming there is enough clearance around the unit. I'll be able to post pics tomorrow, since I can't load the camera software on my PC.

To answer your questions chnhwk: The bolt is an M5x8 mm. Got two Phillips machine screws at M5x10 mm to replace from Sears hardware. The Mallory mounts right in the fuel rail where the OEM unit went. It would take much kluging to remote mount it. It might fit on a Zetec, it will fit for sure on my friend's 95 TBird.

How much? And does it have a gauge?

How does $75 shipped sound? It spent all of 10 minutes on the fuel rail. The only thing fooled with was that I turned the adjustment screw all the way in to see if it would fit, so it is probably set for 70 psi. Four turns out (exactly) will be the factory setting of ~45 psi.

No gauge, but there is a 1/8" NPT port (filled with a plug from the factory) for a fuel pressure gauge or a sender for an in car electric gauge.

The nice thing about this part (as opposed to the Kirban) is that it is rebuildable with a kit from Mr. Gasket.

Look for pics tomorrow. What vehicle are you planning on using it on?

Great effort on a new mod. Sorry it didn't work out.

I've been reading this particular thread for the past few days with a lot of interest. My stock regulator is toast and I'm about to be SVT'd thanks to BAT and Downs Ford.

Do you think an Aeromotive FPR would fit?

It looks a lot slimmer and I suspect that it will drop into our fuel rails without any issues.

BTW, do you get a lot of fuel spray when you relieve the pressure at your fuel rail? I'm only getting a little 1/2 second sputter - even with my key in the power position. I suspect that at the very least my FPR is dead and worse case my fuel pump is shot.

I have been using the "pull the fuel pump fuse and let the car stall" method of relieving pressure. I learned this weekend how to use my fuel pressure gauge to relieve pressure instead. I don't know how much fuel should spurt out the schraeder valve if doing so manually, but spraying fuel is really never a good idea.

The advantage to the aftermarket FPR's are that the vacuum port isn't on top, so it can be a little taller than stock, but maybe 2 millimeters. That isn't much. And there is no way to adjust the fuel pressure short of pulling the upper intake off. You just can't fit any tool under the upper and expect to move the adjustment screw. Also, the unit on the right (the one you would be using - 2 bolt style) looks like it will interfere with the rod connecting the IMRC butterflies. After this weekend, I'm of the opinion that NO aftermarket FPR will be useable on the Duratech. It is just too darn tight in there.

My pics are in Yahoo briefcase. My photo hosting site of choice is fubar right now. I'll throw them in there once I get a chance and add narration to the pics.

Look in Mallory FPR

Just wondering how much clearance is needed for the upper manifold to fit? I don't have secondaries anymore, so the linkage clearance issue is avoided. Might be interested...
