96 Contour 2.0 MTX

Driving home I noticed a click noise (almost like a platic bag stuck underneath, flapping in the wind) from the drivers front tire.

Parked it and looked underneath and the whole boot surronding the CV joint that is closest to the tire was gone and the clicking was from the wire clamp that was left behind. I should say that this boot was one of the split boot kits I put on there over a year ago to replace the original which had a split in it.

The car had shown some symptoms leading up to this. When Starting from a dead stop and even at the very end of coming to a stop I can hear a "pop" coming from this area. Also on slow speed turns in parking lots and such it will make grinding/squeking sounds.

Sounds like the CV joint needs to be replaced to me? Anyone have any idea as to what most shops charge for this one.

Also, if I drive it like this for a while is it going to mess it up anymore then it already is.

Thanks for the help.

I've seen that happen before. I don't know how much a shop would do it for. I've seen (a long, long time ago) $30 for install, but who knows.

I've done that work before once in Auto Shop in high school. It was on a boring Integra. It was pretty simple. But you will need access to air and hand powered tools, the pieces in question to be replaced, and a lift.

Is my car for sale? PM me if you're in South FL.
