I'm having nightmares about the disgusting crud that is going to be in there, when I finally decide to do it(+ tune-up), my nightmares will become reality and I will shreek in horror and disbelief.

I might clean it more often if the required materials didn't rack up at $200+

What is going to be the best way to clean all that crap off of the IM's. I have break cleaner and degresser. As for regular cleaning I will do the Berryman's about every 3 oil changes (10k-15k miles.

I found an auto supply place in Portland/Beaverton OR that stocked gallon tins of Berrymans. Someplace close to you might carry that packaging also. Sorry I don't recall exactly which it was, but it was either a Baxter's or a Shuck's/Kragen chain store, likely also in your city.

I ended up using 3 pour cans of B12 and a full case of "25% more" non-chlorinated brake cleaner. A pick set ,small bristle brushes and scotch brite pads are useful additions for nasty conditions .
I bought the car in July 05 with 49K - UIM/LIM was done at 51K. 500 miles a month average - I can probably go awhile before repeating the task *knock on wood* . A catch can will help minimize the goo from reforming . Maintaining the EGR and PCV system goes hand in hand with this . Not that I condone emissions equipment removal - The EGR along with vapors from the purge tank are Huge culprits to this build up . As always --- YMMV
