so how goes your search with this stuff? i haven't seen that Vega i was talking about on ebay at all, but look at www.epinions.com in the electronics -> car audio -> subs section, that usually has some pretty freakin' decent prices. you'll probably find your tempest there, as well.

Have you looked into an Atomic Audio Shocker. They look cheap and stupid but when i used to compete there was a guy with two 15 inch shockers that was louder than anyone else at the competion. 152.1 db at the db drags in a honda civc 3 door. consistently won comps here in texas.
99 Contour se. Sony mex-1hd. Amps-MMATS D200HC/Aura 6x100. EQ's/crossovers-Audio control 4xs/PG bass cube. Subs 4 adire audio shiva. Mids Unknown maker 4 and 6.5" (maybe the blue cast basket will tell you something). Tweets Isophon 1.5" silk dome.

for 2 15" id expect more db. i kno of a couple ppl hitting 145db one of them using only 1 12"

iirc, a friend of a friend of a friend (forgive the hearsay) hit around 196db with the Vega's i'm talking about.
he had (i think) 3 15" with full power, and a bass demo track that i've got.
