Is there a way to tell if my car accepts the remote. Like maybe in the serial number or something.

I didn't get a manual with my used 97 ford contour.
It seems almost completely loaded but there was no remote with it.
I do not have the digital keypad on the drivers door.

Thanks for your feedback.

look for the "brain" next to the engine computer behind the glove box

If you want more info on the "brain", SEARCH for keyless entry, you won't get a answer from anyone here since this has been posted so many times. Some post somewhere will tell you not only how to determine if you have it, but what remotes you need and how to program them.

BTW, no Contour or Mystique ever came with the digital door keypad installed from the factory. Ford determined that the Contour wasn't worth offering the keypad on, probably because they knew they wouldn't sell many with it. Besides, where on the door would you put it and have it look tasteful? I've only seen two vehicles that pad looked decent on, the Continental and Mark VIII. Those are both 40k+ vehicles, and the pad is a membrane integrated into the door handle. On other Ford cars, the keypad is tacked on to the outside of the door, either above the handle, below it, or in the A pillar. Those locations make it look like an afterthought.

I have the afterthought on my 1991 Taurus SHO. Not remote capable . My Mystique is though, because I found the "white with yellow insert" programming plug: Thread for keyless

It is taped up by the upper right corner of the passenger side carpet, kick panel area. If you have it, go on e-bay to find remotes, and you will be all set

I was looking for replacement keyless entry remotes not too long ago and I found a site that had them for $29.99 NEW for my 99 Contour. (same remote)

I had them delivered in less than a week and the programming instructions only took maybe 10 seconds?

Anyways, here's a link to the site:

Just click the Ford category, or type CONTOUR in their search box.
