Hi,
It's been a while since I shopped for a clutch (I really did not NEED one at the time). Back 5 years ago Bear? was was a common choice for limited performance and high streetability.
From some light reading I understand the Spec1 would be fine for my granny driving. SVTCurevo also recommended a lightened flywheel. Anything else I should look into? I want a quaife, but cannot afford one. Anyone install a zetec final drive in a duratec? I always thought my rpms were high on the highway. IIRC, that was less than 125$, so miht be in my price range.
All comments welcome.

The factory SVT clutch is a good strong clutch and a worthy upgrade from your stocker. It will even handle a modified 3.0 very well. The Spec 1 clutch is even stronger without getting too deeply into the compromises encountered with racing clutches for street driving.
The Zetec final drive conversion is common for the 3.0 conversion. Without the additional torque, you probably would not like it very well on a 2.5. But you may tolerate it if you truly are a "granny driver".
For transaxle longivity, a Quaife or Torson is highly recommended. The diff is the weak point in the Contour drivetrain.

Sorry to hijack, but I was wondering what actually was the benefit of the zetec final drive gear. IE, how much difference does it make when say, cruising at 70mph?

Probably 200-300 rpm lower. Not a whole lot. On the other hand it will get you through sixty mph in two gears rather than three if you're racing.

so will a slightly higher redline...which would prolly only really benefit if you have SVT cams...

Thanks for the comments. How much can I get a stock svt clutch for? I thought the Spec1 was priced right for what I want to do, but if I can save 50$ I am getting my diesel mechanic cousin to do the clutch, and this will be his first tour, so I will try to avoid torsen/quaife and required shims I would love one though, cause with a new spec1, I would have no reason not to put the power down... If someone can point a nice howto with pics for the clutch, I'm sure he would appreciate it. I'm not too worried about the higher gearing (zetec final gear). If it truly was 125$, I think i would do it. I spend lot more time on the highway than tearing up the neighboorhood. I always thought the engine reved to fast at 80mph. Glad to see you're still around Big Jim.
