No, most of you guys are smoking the pipe. The EVO is consistently considered the better handling car since it debuted by magazines. I've been reading the reviews for years. The evo has the active yaw control or in the RS model it basically uses to LSD's.
I looked at the STi and it always looks like a chicks car. And that isn't taking into account their 'pink' emblem either.
The EVO interior is about on par with the STi. However, the EVO looks more like a race car overall than the STi.
I'm not sure about the performance of the 06 models but the evo has been beating the STi in the 1/4 mile comparisons too.
Can't say I'd find one more reliable over the other either considering how many of both I've seen in the Deepstage shop. Seems to me that the evo is actually more reliable than the STi when both are subjected to a lot of abuse. This is just a small sampling from the central texas area, but hey, its an observation and that is what you are asking for.
In the end, drive both and pick the one YOU like. They are both fine cars, even for the money. Actually, the EVO RS model smokes all of them for performance and price but you really sacrifice the creature comforts. That was what I wanted to buy but the wife had more of a say in it than I thought.
We ended up buying the '05 Volvo S40 with the T5 all wheel drive options.
LOVE this car. WAY better styling and build quality than the above mentioned cars. Less power, Turbo 5 cylinder only puts out 220 HP but that's because they have the boost low with a small turbo. It won't take much to correct that problem and then it is a very sweet ride.

Oh yeah, they both drive nice by the way and I didn't push either to the limits. However my nod goes to the evo after that.

but seriously, the money I'll spend on a new STi or EVO, I'd buy a used 350Z and twin turbo it and still be cheaper then the STi and EVO..

but thats just me..personal preference

350z with twins cheaper....Not really. EVO RS is only 28K. Regular EVO is only 30K. With the money and effort going into twin turbos on the car...with tuning, the car will not be cheaper at all.
Also, the all wheel drive car is exceptional for traction and handling, IF its designed to race.

Going once...

Going twice...

MOTOR TREND??? They're a bunch of jokes unless you're talking about stock or V8 powered pushrod motors. I read it for years and finally gave up on them.
Read Sport Compact Car, OR Road and Track. The European car mags are good too.

That is such a bogus statement...more tossable and enjoyable. I really hate car mag writers use of words.
This probably means that it had more of a safety margin designed into the car...less likely to kill themselves.

I dont agree - I think id rather have a new 06 STi!

Anyway - you ARE going to explore options for the T5 arnt you? there are a LOT of ways to get MAD power out of one!

You KNOW it! I'm waiting for the first 1 year or 12K miles for a good break in and of course to stop fuggin with my SVT. I sink too much cash into that thing!

With the S40 I'm going to get a better clutch and upgrade to a better/larger turbo. Then I'm going to run it at 14psi and call it good. With the correct turbo at 14psi and basic exhaust mods the car will probably pull over 300 HP and close to 300 at the wheels.

I know. I keep getting it even though I quit paying, and I don't feel like calling to cancel a free thing. But it does suck, and I often disagree with them, so I'll accept that the Evo may be a more hardcore sports car. BUT, I still wouldn't buy the Mitsu just because the company is so shaky.

Don't worry. Your R is a much better starting platform.
What a nice ride. I should have looked into getting one, it wasn't the price that was the issue, it's my only car payment. I just really like the look and the handling of the smaller car but I liked all the racey hardware of the 60R.

I'll be looking into getting the S60 hardware to bolt on to my S40, like the clutch and any other little goodies like that. THe turbo stuff I'm going to do myself though.
