I had the 97 contour parked over in this spot by the woods for about 5 days, seems that was plenty of time for squirrels to make a nest on top of the engine. Well about a mile down the road it caught on fire here's a pic of the damage.. I picked up a new coil, wires and EVR. Looks like I still need all of the vac lines along w/ the 2 lines that goto the UIM (part #?). The main wiring harness is a little crispy too.. hopefully nothing melted on the inside.

Inspect those wires carefully. You must have had the car idling a while before the nest caught fire, to get that hot. Was the nest on the catalytic converters? What a pain..

Depending on your insurance, this may be a covered event.

Damn squirrels?! How about poor squirrels...after all, all that he lost was a few hoses and wires...that poor squirrel lost his home, and winter is coming!!!

There is a 500 deductible and the damange is less than that. The wiring harness for the coil is burned down to bare wires, you can see it in the picture, can I order a new one or is it tied into the main harness?

It may not be less than your deductable at a dealership. Have a dealer check it out.

The coil connector and wires to it are part of harness # F6RZ-9D930-S6A list price $619.85. This harness includes the wires/connectors that run to the injectors, also the cam and crank position sensor, the ECT, IAC, TPS, IMRC, IIRC. I would inspect under the UIM and if the insulation of the wires are cracking, and you are under 100,000 miles get the harness replaced under recall M9903.

Where can I find more information on recall M9903? I am at 125,000 though..
