Hey guys
Well good news/bad news.
Car hasnt done anything bad or scared me in the last 70,000 miles. Today after arriving at school, I turned off the radio and heard a light tapping/clicking coming from the lower pass side. Its faint, but you can hear it. I highly doubt its a spun bearing, I still have lots of power 2,000 - 4500k range.
I have searched but no one has really described a light tapping at a stop. Im thinking maybe main pulley on the right side...or maybe valve pins?
My mustang has this type of problem and it was a bad lifter causing a ticking...but it was all the time. I cannot hear this when accelerating or reving up.
Thanks to all.

I would suspect fuel injector ticking or small exhaust leak as you did not mention any CEL codes. In addition, turn off the heater blower and see if the sound is eliminated.

Heh, I always have a CEL on, but its always Too lean of mixture
Blower motor was not on (its 79 right now), fuel injectors are working fine as far as I can tell.

Bingo. Post the exact code. It could be a leak in the exhaust or vacuum leak.

Yes. From TSB,
P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1) The Adaptive Fuel Strategy continuously monitors fuel delivery hardware. The code is set when the adaptive fuel tables reach a rich calibrated limit. Fuel System:
· Contaminated fuel injectors
· Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel (fuel pump, filter, fuel supply line restrictions)
· Vapor recovery system (VMV)
Induction System:
· MAF contamination
· Air leaks between the MAF and throttle body
· Vacuum leaks
· PCV system concern
· Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
EGR System:
· Leaking gasket
· Stuck EGR valve
· Leaking diaphragm or EVR
Base Engine:
· Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S
· Secondary air concern
Powertrain Control System:
· PCM concern

I didnt think an exhaust leak could cause engine ticking, unless because the engine pulses, everytime the exhaust ports open up the sound of exhaust leaking causes a noise?

Yes. A slight, small leak can make a ticking sound. It is just not obvious.

Okay, sounds good
Thanks for your help Tony!
Im going to crawl under there and see or feel or hear where the leak is coming from.
This might be an excuse for me to buy a new exhaust system.

. Don't want to disappoint you but it could just be a bad flange gasket. Your excuse would still be valid though.

shhhhhhh
If I go tell her that the car is broken and I need a new exhaust system, she will let me shell out the dough.
