Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting CEL before secondarys open?

My moms 95 mystique seems to kick on its CEL when you are in 5th going less than 70MPH(3200RPMs).

It doesn't always happen but sometimes staying at 50-55 for an extended peroid of time will kick it on, if I accelerate to 70, it goes right off. Also if I am crusing at around 63-65 it will kick on. Yet again accelerate to 70 and the CEL goes off. The gas mileage seems to also be off. Seems like my dad's Mustang GT got better gas mileage last time I borrowed it(and I was probably running that harder )

These two things lead me to think the engine is running rich(I pulled codes a few weeks back and one of them was it was running rich). So, anyone have any ideas on how to solve this cause I'm stumped. I was reccomended by my autoshop teacher to put some techron in, couldnt find that today but I used prestone's fuel injector cleaner.

head over to the main site and look at the faqs, find the one on pulling codes from a 95, get the codes then post them and someone will be able to let you know what the problem is

I'm pretty sure its still the rich light. Hell I think the car is only getting about 15-20MPG highway...something isnt right.

I just drove about 45 miles and used 1/4 tank, that can't be right. I am really not hard on the car, keep it below 3500 unless I need to shoot out onto the highway, then I will push 5K. But other than that I can't see how this car is getting such bad gas mileage.
