Does the weapon r intake suffer from heatsoak like KKM? I was ready to spend on KKM but all the comments I read about is heatsoak. I'm afraid to put together a heatshield because I might mess something up. Some people are happy with the weapon r intake, so I might go that direction instead. I suffer thru traffic to and from work everyday here in Oahu and it gets pretty hot so heatsoak would defintly be a factor with KKM. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance

Im not sure, but if the Weapon R is the one that goes down to the air dam, theres more problems with it sucking in water... Heatsoak is not a problem with the kkm once you start moving a bit. I have the KKM and I would recomend it cause if i remember correctly, the Weapon R is like $200, compared to the KKM's $90 price tag. If your still worried about heatsoak, you can buy a heatshield for like $60, or make your own real cheap, its easy! Hope I helped a bit; Peace... -Nick

Heat soak....what a bunch of crap! sorry, but it is in my opinion. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but not enough to hamper the performance. I mean, I live in one of the hottest places in the US, Las Vegas, and I have YET to experience heat soak. I would say get the KKM, its sounds and works great!

i don't think the weapon r is the one that goes down. thats the sca intake. weapon r also includes the intake pipe in a polished look. thats why it costs more.
...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

according to a couple people on these boards, and based on their dyno plots, the KKM loses power at high rpm...
not sure if there's a better alternative though...

weapon r would be subject to heatsoak just like the kkm is the weapon r filter foam? I've heard foam is a no-no. there are some simple simple heatshields around here (thecontourguy?), so don't eliminate that option. wonj - i've heard that, too.
lastly, welcome to the CEG boards!

Here is the data, Notice KKM flow much better than stock SVT (in LBM or pounds of air/min but look at the 30F increase in intake air temp. Each 10F rise in IAT cost you 1% or 2 HP on the SVT . That would be 6HP lost to heatsoak without a heatshield. Pretty much cancels out the 4-6 HP you gained from better flow. This applies to all open air filters on the Tour and you can expect Weapon R to be worse because in addition it has the aluminum airtube that will add more heat to the air. On my dyno comparison, conical K&N flowed just slightly better than KKM but only above 6000 RPMs - negligable advantage unless you plan on upping redline. KKM is a good choice as is BAT adapter + conical K&N, but get or make a heatshield. . http://contour.org/FAQ/misc/SVTvsKKM.pl
