When we punch in at work, the information all goes into the computer's "Time-Trac" program. We are supposed to punch in at start of shift, punch out/in for morning break, out/in for lunch, out/in for afternoon break and also punch out for day before leaving. If we inadvertantly miss a punch, or forget our card, we would just let our supervisor know. (if we did it too many times, she would give us stern warning) Today, the HR person ordered the supervisor to inform us that if we miss any punches in the future, we will NOT be paid for that time. This will be the case even if we show proof of having worked during the time in question!! I pointed out to our supervisor that such an action on the part of HR against an employee would constitute "theft of services." and that HR was leaving the company open to possible legal action. HR lady is now, NOT a popular person.

Best Buy uses a computer similar to it, but if you miss a punch, a "Time Edit" Sheet can be filled out

That sucks.
I remember when i worked at k-mart in highschool, we were required to punch out for our breaks/lunch hours. I never used to do it...as did other employees, so they installed a surveillance camera near the time clock. So, I started pretending to punch in /out. HR never picked up on it. Idiots.

I wonder if they can legally do that. I would contact your state department of labor.
Our workplace considers it a performance issue if you excessively neglect to punch, but our jobs operate where it is impossible to punch in/out at times.
