After spending 45 mintues reading postings, and not finding what I am after I could use a suggetion or two.
Since day one with my 1999 se, it has been running on the rich side, and I have had the check engine light on more times than I can care to recall.
The o2 sensors, 2 have gone bad, and been replaced with ones under warranty. I was told last time when the car was under warranty, the dealer stated the converters on the right side were becoming plugged and need to be replaced, but because my car was over 80K, they would not be covered under warranty, even with my extended coverage.
I was fortunate to pick up a set of used manifold converter assemblies from a fellow contour owner here in Nebraska, and asside from the obvious legalities, if the conveters were cut down to the flanges and new pipes bent, and a new over sized single high flow cat inline, would this run the chance of doing any severe damage to any controls on the car.
I was also told that the valve train needs a certain amount of back pressure to operate properly, and running a true dual exhaust is not advised.
Forgive me if my wording is not spot on, as I am a knuckle-dragger who much prefers his Torino that isn't subjected to emissions.
I wanted to run a set of msds headers, but for the cost involved, and the fact I just shelled a grand for parts to repair the front end accident my wife had, that is going to have to wait.
The other alternative was to gut the converters, and run the napa plug fouler trick.
ok, feel free to smack me if I am out of line...it's just I can't leave a car alone if I see something broke and in need of upgrade...even if it's a computer controlled nightmare to work on.
