Hey guys,
I just have a few questions regarding the installation of the MSDS headers on an SVT. I'm planning to replace everything from the block back (MSDS headers, catco hi-flow cat, and one of the available cat-back systems). The current exhaust system has a flex pipe preceeding the cat, will this pipe remain or does the MSDS y-pipe connect directly to the cat. Also the current cat has a ~8-10" curved pipe attached to it that than connects to the resonator. If I replace the cat with the catco unit will a new pipe need to be fabricated to connect the system to the cat-back system. Any information would be greatly appreciated, I want to get all of my ducks in a row and do this right.

Andy,
The MSDS headers were made to be a direct fit to the V6 exhaust system, by replacing the stock exhaust manifolds and the stock y-pipe. If you want to add a high-flow cat, your best bet is to fabricate your own pipe. However, you might want to have an accordian piece on the newly fabricated pipe....it helps reduce vibration noise.

If you don't include a flex pipe up near the front, i.e. directly behind the cat you will almost certainly crack your headers in a short time. Tranversely mounted engine in FWD cars tend to rock back and forth a LOT. Without the flex pipe this twist has nowhere to go so eventually welds, which tend to be the most brittle and therefore less forgiving part of the header, crack. So spend the $40 on a new flexpipe when you install your custom exhaust or whatever and avoid a headache and wreck headers in the long run.

Ace7, the MSDS ypipe bolts up to that screwy curved pipe. If you want, you could just replace the cat and leave the original piping w/ flex joint. Like Aussie said, no flex joint = bad news. Fabrication of a new pipe would be easy for any shop.

My 98 SVT does not have a flex pipe. I was under the impression that the flex pipe was used with auto trans cars and not with stick shift cars, but I have not been under enough to know for sure.

Anyway, if at least the early 98 SVT did not have a flex pipe, and there has been no ill effects on mine, you may not really need one either.

This is alittle confusing to me, does this mean the MSDS headers, ypipe combo does included the cat without the flex joint? Thanks for any clarification.
