Looking at buying an SE with that code...how much do you think someone should discount it? 500 bucks? It seems it could be a couple things so I figure ad them all together just in case.

LOL. If depends on what the couple of things are. And how much they are asking and what model, year, mileage. If they are asking $501, you definitely can't reduce it by $500 (unless they are just trying to get it out of their driveway)

Punch in some numbers at edmunds and see what it should be. Then maybe knock off a few hundred bucks for the CEL. Good luck.

p0401 is usually one of 3 things, bad dpfe, clogged egr passages in the intake manifold or bad egr valve. all 3 are easy to fix for most do-it-yourselfers. if you had to do all 3 things, parts would cost less than $100.00 and should take less than 2 hours to do.

ya, but in a negotiating scenario...I would add all the parts prices together and that only gets just above 100...and my time is worth way more than free.

I didn't say to negotiate $100.00, I said the parts would cost less than $100.00 plus about 2 hours time. I thought you'd be able to figure out how much to ask off based on that information. only you know how much your time is worth and whether you'd be able to do the work.
