i changed one on a 96 contour.... then 2 yrs. later it was replaced again... still would not work.. after the second one.... found out it was the up/down switch by the drivers side... the wiring harness on the switch pack was not making contack with the switch pack.. all other windows worked but the drivers window.... pulled out the switch pack and held the wiring harness to the back of the switch and it worked great..... now when it does not work... i just pull out the wiring harness and force it to the switch....

Mine does something even stranger...

I rolled it down earlier today and it made a weird rubbing noise...then went all the way down.

Now it only rolls halfway up or all the way down

OMG, this is exactly what happened to my car today. I eventually got the window back up with my g/f holding the switch and me pushing the window back up. Then like a a dumbass I rolled it down and it got stuck again. Then I just pressed the button and it started going up. I am thinking maybe the front roller for the window is broken since it seemed to move towards the front. Help Please?

Late sept 2005 I replaced the motor cable assembly for the front passenger door. The window would move some but not completely up or down with out forcing. The plastic cable ends that feed the cable into motor reel were broken. Got to replace $160.00 part because of the failure of .50 worth of plastic. You can remove the door panel to inspect the motor cable assembly. My guess is that you will need the new assembly because the ends are not replacable. If you have any questions on the work let me know.

My window still works though, it can move all the way a normal window can. It just gets stuck at the one part. Maybe its off it track? Say I were to roll it down all the way, no problem. I go to roll it back up, almost half way, but not quite it almost sounds like its hitting something metal and it stops. The window also moves forward (towards front of car) thwn it stops. Is this still the assembly?

When we were having issues with our window, it did tilt toward the front. This was caused I guess by the cable hanging up. To view this you would need to remove the door panel. The cable ends where they entered the cable reel where broken. The ends where green and made out of harder plastic than the rest of the cable covering and housing. I dont know if the cold weather would affect the life span of the part. I do not think that the window can go off track. It rides one a track in the center of the window. The window itself sits on a shelf that runs up and down when the cable pulls it. Replacement of the assembly is not too bad if you have a warm shop. If you have never done the replacement allow about 2 hours. It does help to have an assistant to help with the removal of the window itself. If you dont have help take care not to drop the window.

Thanks a ton Dan. Your comments are very helpful and I will print them off. My father and I will be looking into the window problem and replacing my entire door latch tomorrow. I will let you know if I have any more trouble or questions. Thanks.

Guess what!? I was right! No big problems at all with my power window. Took off the door panel to put in a new door latch that was completely worn out. After the 2 hours it took to put in the PITA latch my father and I checked out the power window. Some backround info: my door latch WAS very worn so I would have to slam the door multiple times to get it to latch completely. This caused a piece of styrofoam to come unglued from the inside of the door. That styrofoam was held into place by a plastic clip (looks like a bag clip). The clip was located on a main support for the door. The clip, with nothing to hold on to, slid over under my window. When I would roll the window down it would get caught on the screw/nut that the clip had on it and would hang up the window. The strange part is, neither me, my Dad, or a number of other people could see what this piece of syrofoam and clip were for. It couldn't be sound insulation because it wasn't big enough. So, we took out the clip and syrofoam and discarded it. Now my window works perfect and my door closes like butter! All was fixed for a price of $21.30. I'm sure it would've been a couole hundred dollars to fix at a body shop. I sure saved alot of money.

Glad to hear that the fix was cheap. Maybe it was a friday afternoon when the door was built. Some one was screwing with your mind.
