2.0L, 4 Cyl, 1995, Automatic.
My car has a poor idle, especially when starting cold. First try at starting, after a few revs I pump the accelerator pedal and the engine starts with a very rough idle then dies. Second time, same way, the car starts and revs OK, but if I let up on the acc, the car dies. It will not idle until warm. The engine has a ticking noise that sounds like valves.
The CEL comes on intermittantly, typically when accelerating from a stop, and stays on about 15 sec. CEL codes are: 035, 335, 628, 181 and 336.
Compression test shows cyl 1 and 2 at 110PSI, 3 and 4 at 175PSI.
A mechanic recomends a valve adjustment, but I thought that the '95 4 cyl has hydraulic lifters and no adjustment possible. Could the valve issue have anything to do with the idle or is it more likely something else?

1) IAC valve... it sounds a HELL of a lot like your IAC valve is completely shot. Like just sticking closed. I need a new IAC myself... but mines at the point where the car will stall once a month... so im not to worried about it as of now... Id say clean it and see if that makes any difference...
