I own a 98 contour se 2.5. car has 100k miles, but recent tune up, including plugs, wires, airfilter, and "performace" Y-Pipe&Cat. Oh yeah 5-spd. My problem is that the car runs fine 60% of the time and then for no known reason will get a bog type problem under full thottle at about 3500-4000 rpm, at which time the exhast will get louder and the engine runs flat/ no pwr. And at this point it doesn't tach fast. So i'm hoping that someone has run into this type of problem and has a cheaper fix.
Thanks Jason

Great! i had no idea that i had an IMRC. lol Well i will check to see if this is a possible cause. Also i have not taken the car in for the codes to be read. I just spent too much money a month ago and an alternator problem. What happened to the good old days of Chevy V8s w/o any computer/sensor crap?

Question I just changed the spark plugs and wires. I did check to make sure everything was fine there, but this IMRC, how does it go bad, could it have been bumped during tune-up.

Overheats. Hentz is why in that pic the Engine cover has holes drilled where the IMRC is. Allows the heat of the IMRC to radiate off the engine better. Therefore allowing the IMRC to cool off and last longer.

i know...i know why there is wholes in the cover...i was mostly talking about the dirty engine as a whole...and the missing sticker on the UIM. but hey...i wish i had that intake manifold...it is still and SVT unit unlike mine

The IMRC sounds like the culprit, but if that doesn't fix it look at the wires and plugs. I had issues above 4000rpm on two seperate occasions on the same engine. First time it was the crappy plugs, the second time it was the crappy wires. I did a tune up before knowing any better, but now the cars get only OEM equivalent plugs and wires.
