myspace banned
MTV Article
This is actually my girlfriends old high school. One of my friends was telling me about this this past weekend. If they don't delete the account, they are kicked out of Pope John
I think Father Mchugh steps over his boundaries here.
I understand by all means, don't allow students on the site in school. But controlling what they do at home like this is ridiculous.
I have yet to here of someone being abducted because of myspace.
Blah Blah, private school or not, he is going too far.
I guess he doesn't want the kids exposed to anything anywhere.
Like i said, his main focus is rules. From banning Students from using web blogs to girls not allowed to were shorts under the skirts to help keep them warm in the winter. My GF's sister when she went there 6 years ago got several detentions for that. Don't ask me how he knew she had shorts on underneath.
That school just infuriates me. I could go on for days about the bull that goes on there.

You are aware that no one is forced to go to Catholic school, right?

yeah but that's not the point.
There's no reason for them tell people what to do outside of school.

It is the point. You dont' shop at stores you don't like do you? If in infurates (sp?) the parents that much they'll pull their kids out of the school and I'm sure the school may change their POV then.

Most kids in Catholic school have no other choice. Alot of parents won't allow their kids to go anywhere else. And since the parents are paying $10000 a year, most will just agree with whatever the principal says. Its just not fair to the kids.

now that's just creepy although it does remind of a funny story. a woman i worked with told us that she went to an all-girls Catholic high school in OH. one teacher would make the girls come to the front of the class and bend over for a spanking with the ruler when they got in trouble. i asked her if they had to wear those little Catholic school girl uniforms and she said yes. i said "that's so hot". that wasnt the reply she was looking for

i went to a Southern Baptist school that was reallly strict. girls had to wear skirts that went below the knees. the VP would walk around with a ruler and measure them. the chearleaders' "skirts" would go down to their ankles. boys had to wear collared shirts that were tucked in and pants with a belt. we weren't allowed to roll our pants up (the style back then). long hair for girls, short hair for boys. no facial hair for boys (girls either ).
we weren't allowed to listen to music other than Christian, dancing was verboten as well as going to the movies. one kid was seen going to the movies by a counselor and got in trouble. some kids had a birthday party where they played popular music and were dancing (someone ratted) and a bunch of kids got in trouble. when a new student goes to sign up to go to the school the student and the parents must sign a contract that states if these rules (and many others) are violated the the kid will be expelled but the parents must finish paying the year's tuition.

Catholic schools are in a position to guide their students morally in the way they feel is best. If they think MySpace accounts are the spawn of Satan, then it makes sense that they would ban their students from having the accounts. Catholic schools may suspend or expel a student who gets pregnant, but the chances they were having sex during school are slim (though I wouldn't doubt it).
