My son froze up his 1995 GL. I am pulling the engine to either rebuild or swap it. I have been using the Haynes book and am less than an hour away from being able to drop the engine. That is what they say to do, drop it out the bottom with the sub-frame. Then last night I saw that the engine rebuild sticky forum said he dropped it in the top? Is it easier to go up or down? I have always been concerned about taking out the subframe and getting it back in the same place.
What do you guys do (up or down)?
Thanks, Dale ------------------------------ 1995 GL, 2.5L, manual (love that clutch work)

Do you have an engine hoist? Most go from the top.

Engine only? top with a hoist.
engine/tranny? top with a hoist
tranny? well... I'd pull the engine and tranny out the top, still, but the tranny ALONE can come out the bottom.

Thanks! Engine and trany, not sure which one locked up. I was going to get an engine host and engine stand today anyway. Are there other things (besides what Haynes says) that I have to do? Do I need to pull radiator, I would think so? Is it easy to pull the axles out of the differential? Have a good one, Dale

No need to pull radiator. Just be careful when moving the engine past it. Axles pop out with a slidehammer after you disconnect everything.

It's a tight squeeze with a ATX or a MTX more so with an ATX, I've done both. If you can remove the upper intake manifold, cause if you don't you might bust the vacuum lines off. Motor and tranny together would be best!

It's a '95 GL, therefore a 4 banger. No UIM lines to worry about.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

TDF, where did you find the I4 info? his sig states: Quote:
1995 GL, 2.5L, manual
, and even though he does state that his sons car is having problems, it doesn't (that I saw) state anything about an I4..
just wondering, was all.

It is a V6, not I4.

Get a Ford Service CD. It's wayyyy better than the haynes manual. I'm sure if you search around someone might have a copy around...
