I just bought my first SVT Contour. I am a SHO owner (93) and was looking for something newer. It is a 99 silver with 27K. What's the first/best mod I should perform on it? I'm thinking something power related, since it's not quite as powerfull as the SHO.

As i'm sure many of these guys will tell you, it can be tough sometimes to get hp out of these cars, but they are a ton of fun to drive. An intake would probably be your best first bet. that's what i did. then there is always exhaust, MAF (which works great on my SVT, but others have their gripes), or even a supercharger if your up for it. If your a big twisties fan, change out the suspension and enjoy.

You need to help the engine breath a little better...my first mod would be a new intake. The majority of svt owners on here (except the ones that build their own) have a KKM. (Kurtz Kustomz True-Rev Sport Induction Kit) Then maybe a new exhaust. Go to spmotorsports.com; you can find your way from there.

welcome aboard.
try using the search function in the upper right in the general mods and performance sections for "first mod" and "1st mod" as well as exhaust, resonator, etc.
imo i think: 1. kkm 2. SHO y-pipe 3. exhaust - bassani, borla, custom
for cheaper mods, you could also try: -gutted cat(s) -removing resonator
good luck!

good luck! Removing resonator sounds like a good first mod, because it's cheap! What will this do to the sound?

make it louder, drone at 3k-4k rpms, and rasp when cold. I didn't like it, added a glasspack and now it's perfect.
My first mod, a Voodoo shift knob. It's a screw-on design versus crappy set screws. ~$35, I enjoy mine daily.

y-pipe, y-pipe, y-pipe. It is the only thing I've done that made a really noticable difference. I also have the kkm adaptor, so maybe it wouldn't have made as much without that, but those are only $80. Now that I think of it, I also have the bassani. that probably helped too. But your cat back isn't as restrictive as mine was so that wouldn't really matter. Anyway, kkm + y-pipe. You'll be happy
Old - 95.5 SE with lot's of mods. New - 98 Black SVT with few mods.

there's also a "YoDude" (the name itself makes me want to...), but it's essentially the same thing. I think there's only a few with that pipe. You could also check out (search for) AussieSVT's custom exhaust. I have a SHOShop ypipe on mine, and I had the res out. I got sick of the drone. It does sound damn burley w/o a res, though. I'd say SVT ST PETE's options are good starters. MAF's have been getting a lot of hail recently, though I think they're for a little more tuned up car. HTH, and welcome
