1G DSM for about $2000 and 1/2 of the rest for mods and the other half for repairs. You will be fast, but swaring the whole time.

i was gonna say volvo 850 T5-R but the S70 T5 is close enough.

I was looking in the price range a little above that and I ended up with the Mazdaspeed Protege. You can get them in your price range with a few more miles but no leather or sunroof (unless it is aftermarket) on any of them.

99-01 Volvo C70 Coupe. Sold mine awhile back for 10 grand. Would love to have it back some day.
You can get them in a 5 speed, in the late 98-99 models, but are hard to find, and most were the converts. Volvo reliability, safety, comfort, and features are hard to pass up. Car was fun as hell to drive, too. Can get them with GOOD miles (50-60K) for less than 13 grand.
Funky fresh, lol.. 05 Scion tC could be had used with little miles. There was one in autotrader last week with 12000 miles, fairly base, but if you check out the tC's base equipemnt, you'd be shocked (panioramic roof, awesome CD, etc) nfor 11,900. Most people lease these cars, so finding a used one is a bit scarce.
Ofcoarse the FSVT is another option in that price range, too.
Another good option is a used SRT-4, if you want "GO-fastness". Used in good condition with no mods can be had around 11-14 grand.

I would have to agree with this guy. Seems like a 5dr. FSVT wouldn't be too expensive, would be a 6 speed, but I don't know about the leather. Here is a good example; 2004 Focus SVT 5 door, 19K mi; $13,500.

Sorry for the long link, and I hope you find the car you are looking for.

My car lacks the esteem, respect and styling of an SVT... I have a fever and the only perscription is more SVT-ness.

what about a mazda protege MP3 or mazdaspeed? not ford designed, great handlers (though you will need to buy a set of winter tires, i'd highly recomend not running around in snow in thier stock sets) can be had for fairly cheap and there are enough mods out there to keep you somewhat happy.

A Focus seems to fufill his requirement, but it clearly says no FORD products unless they are just something Ford owns like Mazda or Volvo.
I understand that, and I respect it. We all should, so lets not turn this into a "what is wrong with buying a Ford car" thread. I'm not saying that anybody has, I'm just saying lets not so this thread is useful.
