This is the first tour/Zetec I've owned - it seems to fall flat at about 3800 RPM - no power, and won't even get past 4500. Oh - manual trans, if that matters.
No codes, runs fine (no stumble etc.), new plugs, air filter, gas milage normal.
One thing I noticed is I can't run regular gas. It makes a horrible sound around 3800 - like it's a diesel engine. Alot better on 93 octane, but still no power.....
Can anyone help on this?

In addition, put in a bottle of HEET (gas dryer) in the gas tank to see if it helps.

Forgot to mention - I replaced the fuel filter.
Is the timing adjustable on the Z? What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump?

This is exactly wha is happening to my zetec, as posted earlier.
I've done everything mentioned above as well as checking fuel pump pressure which is 38psi and 42 with rgulator d/c'd and exhaust gas flow testing to check for a restriction.
Next on my list to check is the MAF
AS for the gas mine runs fine on 89 with no issues

What year? Fuel starvation would be RPM and load dependent. Originally posted by fomoco: This is the first tour/Zetec I've owned - it seems to fall flat at about 3800 RPM - no power, and won't even get past 4500. Oh - manual trans, if that matters.
- Static timing (timing belt)
- Exhaust backpressure (clogged CAT)
- MAF is a possibility

This is usually from a lack of EGR, but it may go away when you fix the other problem.
Have you actually tried to pull codes?
