Changing the cabin air filter is a must if you've smoked in your car with the AC on. The difference is night and day.

Note, the filter does not filter recirculated air, just the fresh air coming from outside. While I had it apart, I set the control to both panel/AC and max AC; max AC (which recirculates) drew nothing through the filter. It's pretty much just for pollen and outside pollutants. Thanks for the info on changing this, it was the original one and I could make soup out of it!

Just thought I should let everyone know that if you don't change the filter it can eventually get clogged enough that air won't be drawn in from outside.

We had this problem with the 'stique. I thought the resistor pack had blown or the blowermotor was going out, as we would only occasionally get air blowing out of the vents. I went to look at the blower, pulled the filter out (was caked with stuff) turned it on, and eveything worked. Replaced the filter and haven't had a problem since.
