I have a Sho Shop Y pipe with cats that I'm going to use and was wondering how well 2 1/2" all the way back will work. I thought about using the Dynomax Race magnums,(basically a straight pipe in a can). Is this too big to be efficient under 4 grand on the 2.5 SVT. A 1/4" difference shouldn't effect exhaust gas velocity at lower rpm's that much would it, compared with 2 1/4" systems.
And YES, I did look at all 300 plus results from the search feature AND, I think I used correct grammar SO, I assume this question is kosher now
Does anyone who has this setup like the performance/sound that this setup offers?
Thanks for any info.

I'm running 2 1/4" plumbing, but something to consider on the seemingly small 1/4" increase in the pipe diameter is the fairly large increase in area this provides. (piR**2) For 2.25 pipe thats about 4 sq in. for 2.5" pipe it's about 4.9 sq in. Thats almost a 25% increase in area from about a 10% increase in diameter. That extra area (and resulting volume) will somewhat slow down the evacuation of exhaust gases, but I don't know if it's "too much". I'm sure there has to some big pipe SVT'rs out there that have some real experience with this.

I would stick with 2.25" for a near stock SVT, the 2.5" will kill some flow velocity at anytihng but redline. If you run a good 2.25" setup, you should pick up some tq along w/ the hp. and honestly, when I did mine (I went w/ 2.5" cuz the guy did it for me for free :D) I don't think I got any tq gains, though I did pick up a bit of hp (butt-o-meter)
as an aside, when I got the SHO-shop Y-pipe later I did notice a decent gain in tq

It's all about balance.

I have SHOShop y with 2.5" going to the stock split (I know...the rear y split needs to go...). I agree w/ Rara, I don't know if I saw any tq gains, but certainly no loss. The top end however...HOOOOIE!!! The car is certainly not a dog under 4k, too. I was talking w/ cawong11, and I think he's right when he says the SVT is more prone to tq loss than a regular 2.5. I like my 2.5" exhaust.

I have experience in stock LX, SMA hiflo y-pipe and 3" SS cat-back, and CTA hiflow 2.5" Single CTA custom. To be honest, when the 3" was welded correctly and the flanges weren't leaking, my car performed better than either of the other two setups.

I had no resonator on the 3". It was loud as hell, droned like a b1tch and easily outperformed my other setups. In the KC Nats chart...Dan's 98 SVT outperformed another 99 SVT after 3200rpm........so if you drive it hard and keep the revs up, 2.5" is not gonna be too bad, since 3" is not that detrimental.

I'd say a 2.5" Quasi dual with no res would be just about ideal for Flow / Velocity / Performance. Just my opinion backed by at least one year of living with each setup.

The Dynomax Race Magnums part #24215 are loud, little to no drone on the freeway though. I think it is a little "farty" but a few people have said it sounded sweet. I have one as a res and one as a muffler. $39.03 shipped to my door.

Hope that helped.

Now that's the info I needed! Thanks guys.
Ed, where did you get the price from for the Dynomax Race Magnums? If they are the same ones I was looking at then I almost got ripped off. The guy wanted to sell them to me for $98.00 a piece eek I seem to have a certain talent for getting hosed

Welded Ultra Flo Price List....

SS 2.5" in....2.5" out.....check the part number he qouted you. Could have been a SS Polished unit....I'm talking about bullet mufflers, race only. Kinda like a straight pipe in a 4" coffee can.

Price is now listed as 39.95 on the site...Ultra Flo Welded Mufflers.

Have fun. Cawong11 is a good guy, can do a system for you for a great price. Shipping is a beast, he's in Canada, but the exchange rate is favorable.

CTA Motorsports....check him out.

This is the setup I am using on my Cougar...

2.5" y-split, 2.5" high flow cat and Dynomax muffler, to a 2.5" to 2.25" split behind the gas tank and out 2.25" pipes and 3" tips.

It was all custom bent and welded for me. Professional work, done in 4 hours.

The sound is quiet at idle, and sounds like a loud V6 mustang at WOT. Doesn't drone on the highway more than one or two clicks of the volume.

My low end pretty much feels the same but the high end definitly pulls better. I don't have any dyno results though.
