I was just going over a few things the other day on the 'Tour' and noticed that their is a really strange linkage system that is between the throttle cable and the throttle body on my 98' V6. Interesting idea I guess... but why is mine so loose? I'm sure that I am not the only one out there with this problem. Just seems that with age (and not that much... car only has 50k) the linkage arm or whatever has just gotten a loose fit on the piviot points.
I was origionaly trying to find the slack in my throttle cable... slack turns out to be just sloppy linkage. Is there anyone else that has noticed this? Is there some sort of fix for it? How does the SVT hook up to the T-Body?

I can't see your picture. Basicaly when you look at where the cables attach, you see the cruise control cable and that one has slack in it. The throttle cable does as well, but is not nearly as noticable as the cruise. What I am talking about is not the cables... it's the linkage... I don't know if the SVT's have the same linkage as non-SVT's. Normaly the throttle cable attaches right to the t-body, in this case, it does not... there is a spring loaded piece of metal that the cruise and throttle cable attach to and then there is a little dog bone looking thing (this is what I am talking about) that goes to the actual throttle body (which also has a spring).

The SVT does not have this "dog bone" style linkage. The SVT cable attaches to linkage directly mounted on the throttle plate bar. On your non SVT TB, there should be a little bit of movement on the dog bone, but not a whole lot like you're describing. Short of fabbing up your own dog bone, I'd say you're SOL on adjusting that TB if it really is shot like you're saying.

Yes I have Cruise Control... it's a 98' SE V6 MTX. As far as it being shot, I don't think it's shot, just kinda' wasn't expecting there to be that much play with the mechanism that's all. Typical, probibly, but I really don't understand why they have this design. If I were to upgrade to an SVT throttle body (which I am thinking of doing the entire intake maifold upgrade anyway which would require me to)... is there any way to still have the cruise connected?... I know that this is a problem for most as I have read up on it, but is there a way?... on my searches, I haven't seen anything promissing considering you have to get a new throttle cable bracket and everything.

The cruise control from your '98 would be retained with the SVT TB kit, only the bracket and throttle cable need to be changed along with the TB and TPS (should come with the TB). Throttle response is greatly improved because of the faster SVT throttle assembly. One of the best low buck mods for a non SVT to do, and it doesn't take long at all. Not sure where you got your cruise disable info from... The only issue with SVT TB swaps is with traction control equipped '95's because that year had cable driven TC, while all other years are electronic and not effected.

You know what?... I think that is what I was thinking... not that the cruise control wouldn't work... the T/C, that is what I was thinking. To be honest with you, I'm not sure how it works... but that is what I meant, the T/C, not the cruise. Will the T/C on my car still be retained? I would assume so, but not sure.
Does anyone have a complete list of part numbers needed to do the conversion? Will I need any additional parts to make the SVT UIM and LIM work once I get those assuming I have already done the SVT t-body upgrade? Any info is greatly appreciated guys... thank you.

What??? The SVT throttle body is actually from a Taurus and is "upside down". That is: for the cable to be on the side Contours have it on, the TB is rotated 180 degrees and so the TB pulls in opposite rotation from stock V6 TB's. You MUST get the SVT bracket that holds the cable to have it work, (and the rubber tube gizmo from the aircleaner) To ADD the cruise from you standard V6 you need to make a holder to fit the cruise cable. I used a 3/4"long thinwall tube and held it down with a small triangular plate, screws in corners, to keep stable. All this was on my 96' V6 Mystique. On which I put the SVT TB and air intake. Bracket is like $25, tube is like $70, SVT air cleaner assy and MAF (can only get together) $170

The '96 is different from what his '98 is Lizzy. No cruise cable swaps or mods are needed on '98+ to switch to an SVT TB so long as he gets the SVT bracket. Yes, I do know that the 3 liters have a similar TB... I have 4 sitting on my bench from 3 liter swap projects. WA2FAST, you traction control is electronic. It works along with the ABS sensors on you car. It will not be effected by the TB upgrade. IIRC, the only year that's cable driven for Contours is '95.
