Did you try this thread for installation instructions?

http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=trouble&Number=459677&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

And just in case you got a bad TPS, test it.

Disconnect sensor's terminals, measure resistance between, center terminal and other outer terminals. Per Haynes, resistance should be between 400 to 6000 ohms.

And this thread might help you decide what to do.

Before you go to the dealer, check the output voltage of the TPS. Backprobe the white wire of the TPS connector with key off. DO NOT PIERCE THE WIRE.

With key on engine off, the voltages should be as follows:

Throttle angle// Voltage
0 deg// .65V
10 deg// .97V
20 deg// 1.44V
30 deg// 1.9V
40 deg// 2.37V
50 deg// 2.84V
60 deg// 3.31V
70 deg// 3.78V
80 deg// 3.9V

If you don't measure anything, make sure you have battery voltage on the yellow wire and ground on the brown. If this checks out good, you'll want to check the voltage drops on all three wires.

thanks for the suggestions, i will try them after work and let you know what happened. i am thinking towards a vacuum leak for some reason after reading the archive that tony linked me to, but i have not checked the voltages like that so that could be it too, i returned the tps and got another and checked it before i left the store, so i know that it is good, the only other thing is that the notch on my factory tps is sitting in a different place than the replacement one i am also wondering if that has something to do with it...that would change the preload setting i would think i did get the wells 246 but i am thinking about returning that one and getting a motorcraft the difference is only 5 dollars and i have spent more than that in bad fuel mileage....thanks guys

Yes, sometimes these Fords are little finicky. Pay an extra $5 and you can say you tried everything and it still did not work. It's a Ford conspiracy!
