its common, mine has been doing that since I got it... Especially in the summers. What I do is turn on the Defroster or A/C and that kicks on the Low speed fan automatically, almost instantly dropping the temperature of the engine. it works pretty easily. Congradulations on your purchase.

AWESOME reply man, thats going to help a bunch!
im actually on the phone with the dealer right now setting up my appointment for the recall on the engine wire harness since the car is 9 years old and has ONLY 80k miles on it, so it qualifies for the recall service! whoo hooo!
but i will check out the simple checks you suggested.
i have already read those links you posted, i found them while searching tonight.
and yes, i am enjoying the contour. it seems to be a decent car for the money and is very comfortable to drive.
on a side note, the car doesnt have a manual that came with it, however the first thing i picked up was a Chiltons manual (similar to a Hayne's manual)
thanks again.

The system will burp itself. I've watched it do it. You may have to have the cap off the reservoir to allow air to escape, but doesn't it have an overflow line that it could escape through, or atleast couldn't the air just be above the coolant in the reservoir?

well, i will have to stand corrected, it does "bleed" itselft, but according to the Chilton's manual, the owner still had to take the cap off, top off the coolant, let engine cool, top off coolant, repeat process until all air is out of the system. so there is a "process", but its not technical or specific.
yes, there is a line from the top of the tstat housing, but the only thing i have notice come through that hose is coolant into the tank.
and on another side note, HOLY CRAP you have a lot of posts!

Yeah. I have a problem. Unfortunately no major drug manufacturer has succeeded yet in making a cure.
Did you get my PM?
Like I said, my low speed fan doesn't cut on. Though when I use obd2 software to turn it on manually, it works fine. So I sorta question anything being wrong with it.
Somebody did a how-to on wiring something up to turn the fans on. It was a while back though so I'm not sure where to find it.
