I just got my MSDS headers, and in the instruction sheet it says..."Must use remote style oil cooler on SVT."

Am I to assume that the SVT oil cooler that's on the car now has to be replaced??

If so, why?? Is is heat related, lack of space??? Or am I reading this wrong??

Thanks!!!

Lack of space.

The existing SVT oil cooler is sandwiched between the oil filter and the block.

Remove the oil cooler only if you purchased the Vortech spec headers. The front header, due to its arrangement, will touch the oil cooler.

I thought it had to be something like that.

Is it wise to remove the oil cooler, seeing that the V6's seem to have oil starvation problems in hard conering anyway?

Won't that just add to the problems, it can't help, right??

Thanks!

From observing both Contour's in our stable, the differences that I have seen is that the SE runs cooler than the SVT but the temperature fluctuates up and down as the car is in motion or is idle. The SVT engine temperature is always in the middle of the gauge and stays relatively consistent.

Analysis, more consistent engine temperature with the oil cooler, I guess. eek

I think I may the first to do the oil-cooler system. At first, I was going to use a sandwich plate with inlet/outlet on the side, but was'nt enuf room to get the hoses properly hooked up. So, I went with a remote oil-filter system and mounted the new filter mount next to the a/c accumulator (under the battery mount). I mounted a Tru-Cool L7B cooler in front and as far to drivers side of the power steering cooler as possible. This requires removal of the front bumper cover and bumper to do the install. Sorry, but I got so involved in the work I forgot to take pics! So far the system seems to be working fine. I installed a thermostat also to bypass the cooler when the oil is cool to cut down on sludge, etc. The thermostat opens to allow most oil to flow to cooler @ 180deg. Just got back from a weekend road trip and the oil temp (once warmed up) stayed between 180 and 200 degrees. I used a remote filter mount with dual ports, so I could install the oil temp sender in one of the aetra ports. Hardest part of the install once I figured out where to mount everyting was routing lines to the cooler as there is basically no open spaces up front. If I need to pull the front end off again, I'll be sure to take some pics.

And now for my next dumb questions....where, what are the "Atrea ports" your talking about?
Are the the Hex nuts on the side of the engine block?
Where did you get the remote oil filter set up?
I have been thinking of relocating the battery, so could I use that spot for the filter....save taking the bumper off maybe???

Thanks!

Bought the remote system parts frm Racer Parts Wholesale, but you can get the parts or even whole systems at just about any aftermarket shop. I mounted the remote filter under the battery next to the a/c accumulator tank. The bumper removal was necessary to install the cooler. Needs to be in the airflow, as it is an air-to-oil cooler vs. water-to-oil. The remote filter mount I got has 2 sets of inlet/outlet ports. Thus the EXTRA ports. Since you only need to use one set, you can either plug the others or as I did, use one for oil-temp sender.

might I suggest if your fooling around with the oil cooler/oil piping, your look into an Accusump Oil Accumulator from www.batinc.net ... especially if your running your engine hard.
