Please help, the steering wheel air bag on my 96
GL is loose. I have a Ford CD, it says there are only 2 screws holding the bag in place. I have located the screw holes but am unable to determine what kind of head these screws have. I am unable to get my head in position to look down into the hole. Have tried a philips screwdriver and various sizes of torx but am still unable to tighten them. Does anyone have the info I need or tips to try? Thanks in advance.

Did you try T-25 as suggested by this thread? Torx (aka Star bit).

Also try with a small mirror and small flashlight taped to the screw driver so that you can see the screws.

This post suggest a different size (T-30).

Just so everyone knows. Mine has been loose since 1999 and I just fixed it today. Now that has to be some sort of record for the longest fixable problem that was put off (not on purpose, just never got around to it)


Airbag is held on with 2 T30 torx screws

Just turn the wheel expose the middle screwhole from the back and tighten. No need to remove battery at all. Can be done standing outside of car so airbag doesn't deploy in your face.

Thanks for the reply, I had already tried the T-30 with no luck. I borrowed a T-25 from my neighbor and it did the trick. I'll pickup my own tomorrow for future use. Thanks again.
