It sounds like your left rear bulb has burned out the brighter of the two elements. Try changing the bulb.

The turn signal switches are know to have some problems, but I would check out the bulb sockets and wiring before going to the switch.

Sounds like the Multi-function switch is misbehaving.
Usually, the pins on the connector side, not the switch itself, are the culprit.

There are two connectors attached to the switch and the problem lies in the smaller of the two.
Remove the switch assy. from the steering column and then disconnect the connector.

Check the pins as, over time, they will spread out to the point that they no longer touch the spade connector at the switch side.

Using a very small screwdriver, you can usually press them together so they fit tighter and make contact once again.

**The multi-function switch is the turn signal stick**

If you do a search, I believe there are some pictures and a step by step guide also.

I vote Gary for Search Nazi.

If you want to try the MFS, here is the post.

On the left side of the steering column, (turn signal switch).

From Ford CD
1. Disconnect battery ground cable
2. Remove two screws and upper steering column shroud

3. Depress the multi-function switch locking tab.

4. Slide multi-function switch up and off of steering column.

5. Depress locking tabs on multi-function switch electrical connectors and remove from the multi-function switch.
